SweetWater Brewing Company

About The Brand

SweetWater's roots began back in Boulder, Colorado in the early 90's while Freddy Bensch and Kevin McNerney were roommates at the University of Colorado, Boulder. During their time out west, they realized they had more of a hankering for beer than books. Their first step into the profession was washing kegs on the loading docks of a local brewery for free beer. Not a bad job when you're in college! With all this free beer, their grades went up, their cars got fixed, friends were plentiful and the sun shined a little brighter. Once they were finished with school, it was time to either find a real job, or get serious in the brewing business. Easy choice, right? Freddy and Kevin headed off to the American Brewers Guild in California aka Brewing School to sharpen up their knowledge of Fermentation Science. After that they were off and running brewing beer for other breweries around the west coast, learning their craft while keeping the dream of their own place alive.

Take Two Pils is a step into an alternate reality for SweetWater, a head-first dive down the rabbit hole into the Wonderland world of lagers. SweetWater Hash Session IPA

IPA | ABV: 4.2

Gist of the grist is mellow at 4.20% ABV, laying down the base to showcase the blazin' Amarillo hop hash sunset. The star of the show here is the hops, specifically the hop hash! We kept the malt bill light to allow the hops to shine through. We dosed this sucker with a boatload of Amarillo Hop Hash. Pungent with floral, tropical citrus fruit flavors and the hop hash gives it that one of a kind chewy, gooey, resiny mouthfeel. As the chase, we are giving it a hefty dry hop to enhance the potent aromas. Ahtanum gives it orange and grapefruit tones, Crystal for a little kick of spiciness, and El Dorado bringing some pear and watermelon characteristics.

SweetWater Hop Hash IPA

IPA | ABV: 7.8

We scraped all the hash out of the Yakima hop pelletizers we could get our sticky fingers on to concoct the dankest double IPA out there. The pure hop lupulin, aka “hash” (the resiny stuff), meshes seamlessly with the 2-row, pilsner and wheat malts, allowing it to deliver a pungent punch to the palate.

SweetWater Whiplash White IPA

IPA | ABV: 6.3

What happens when a 500year old Belgian style ale gets rear-ended bya truckload of pompous American hops? It equals one heck of an ambulance chaser of a beer. This is an American style Belgian IPA, with a subtle phenolic flavor in combination with citrusy/piney hops, well balanced at 6.2% and 55 IBUs, with a tart, dry finish. 2014 World Beer Cup Bronze Medal winner for American-Belgo-Style Ale category.
